When I decided to get serious about photography, there were two reasons: I wanted to take pictures of the beautiful things I saw all around me and I had recently lost my dog Oliver after nearly 15 years together and I had only snapshots of him. Fast forward three years, and I am making sure I don’t make the same mistakes with the dog I have now, Maggie. She is a standard poodle and a real clown and loves to be outdoors exploring as much as I do. She has been on cross country trips with us several times and she is quick to jump in the car to go with us.
After watching how much fun Booger, the Chesapeake Bay Retreiver had on our shoot at Matapeake State Park on Kent Island, I decided I had to take my Maggie to the beach to have some fun also. I decided to head for Ferry Point Park, on Kent Narrows. I had been to this park before and loved how quiet it was and the beautiful view of the Chesapeake Bay and the boating traffic at Kent Narrows.
As soon as we let Maggie out of the car she was ready to bark at the ducks and check out all the new smells, We walked down the paved path until we got to the park area with the beach and we headed toward a part of the beach where no one was around. We let Maggie off leash and she headed straight for the water. Many people do not know that standard poodles are water dogs with web feet. Maggie was soon having a great time running in the water and chasing sticks. We enjoyed watching her and feeling the warm sunshine and the bay breeze. Of course I had my camera to record memories of that day to last forever. All in all it was a great day.
