Rescue to King

Do you ever feel something was destined to happen?

This picture is the very first time I saw Leo, my rescue terrier. I was looking for a young non-shedding breed on the smaller side and put a post on Facebook to ask my friends to let me know if they saw one in any of the rescues they work with.

Almost immediately a friend messaged me to say she would share my info with the rescue she works with. In less than an hour, she messaged me again with the first picture you see here, asking me if this was a dog I would be interested in. He had just been picked up by the rescue in WV and was being brought back to Maryland and had not even arrived yet. As soon as I saw that face, I was in love. I said YES!

After a week of the rescue checking him out and making sure his temperament was fine, my husband, my poodle Maggie, and I all piled into the car to drive to Frederick to meet this pup in person. We fell in love right then, and he was so happy to meet us. We brought him home that day,

and he has been with us about a year and a half, growing in confidence by knowing he is loved and cared for. He loves his big sister, and she considers him a somewhat annoying little brother that is fun to play with.

Have you considered adopting a dog from a rescue? There are rescues for almost every breed and age of dog. If you need some help connecting to one, let me know, and I will help you. Dogs have so much love to give, but remember you are making a lifetime commitment. Know the temperament of the dog and make sure you choose a dog that fits your lifestyle, and don’t choose based just on a pretty face.

Dogs will give you their best, and we need to do the same for them.
